My Journey through pregnancy so far

IMG_2088

I know this blog is primarily about beauty but I did also mention that I am expecting twins. I thought as I have jus started my maternity leave it was a good place to start with my first post of the ups and downs I have experienced so far.

I have four weeks left to go and I feel like the countdown is on, I am super excited about seeing their little faces. I have been quite lucky throughout my pregnancy with not experiencing too many problems along the way. Between week seven to week thirteen I probably found the hardest with the constant nausea, extreme tiredness and holding down a full-time job working twelve hours a day. I look back and don’t know how I got myself through it plus my partner was away for most of that time on a business trip to New York. It is amazing what our bodies can go through and how they can come back around the other side. I am fully aware that really, I was quite lucky with only getting those pregnancy symptoms as I know there are women out there that suffer a lot worse and for the whole nine months. I salute you!

My Second trimester has been the most enjoyable; I absolutely loved being pregnant within those thirteen weeks. My energy was sky-high, I felt that I was glowing, my bump had started showing but had not yet started slowing me down, it was in this time frame I really started to come to terms with the fact I was having twins. Finding out I was having twins was a huge shock to me and something that didn’t come lightly. I never want to sound ungrateful as I know lots of women out there would kill to be in the position I was in, I suppose it just never really entered my head that this was a possibility. (How naive was I) I think I doubted myself and my capability in looking after two brand new babies at once more than anything, plus the cost! Trust me when you have to double up on practicality everything twins get very expensive!

Now I am overjoyed with the fact I am having twins and finding out that we are having two little girls has made it even more exciting. I have got my head round that I am just going to have to budget and plan plan plan!

Now in my third trimester at thirty-four weeks I am definitely feeling the weight of my bump, although I am super lucky not to have any stretch marks yet I do believe this is down to religiously rubbing in Bio Oil morning and evening. I am also experiencing a lot more aches and pains but am finding having a ritual bath every evening with Epsom bath salts is definitely easing these aches and helping that fluid retention, along with the copious amounts of water I drink on a daily basis. My other top tip would be surrounding yourself with pillows when going to bed, although this doesn’t overly please my partner it makes me feel more comfortable throughout the nighttime.

Whilst in my third trimester I have had one small scare where I started having contractions, I called the midwife as I was having an awful period pain feeling which I haven’t experienced throughout the whole pregnancy and she told me to go down to the labour ward where they will do some checks just to be on the safe side. I was a bit worried I was being a bit dramatic and would be in and out of the hospital within twenty minutes. I actually ended up staying twenty-four with lots of checks. It just shows you how important it is to listen to your body and those gut instincts. The staff at the hospital were fantastic and put me on a monitor to watch both babies heart beats and on the machine you could see when I having contractions. I was thirty-one weeks at this point and because I am having twins it was recommended that I go on a course of steroid injections as this will help develop both babies lungs encase they decided to show early. After 12 hours of having these contractions they has eased off and luckily I haven’t had any regular ones since.

I looking forward to seeing what the next four weeks bring and I will keep you updated. In the meantime I will be posting my top five go to products that have kept me sane throughout my pregnancy.

This was so lovely to read!! I loved how you mentioned the hardships of other pregnant women, as well as those who aren’t able to get pregnant-it shows you do know how lucky you are when you put things into perspective. Can’t wait to read more of your posts!! Hopefully the twins will make an appearance in one of them soon! xx
