Waxing Vs Shaving

To wax or to shave that is the question! The old age debate which has seen no winner. Although, I definitely have a preference. I am here to tell you the pros and cons of both and why I always lean towards waxing.

Waxing can be painful, there is no denying that. But, over time when the hairs thin out the pain does ease off. Shaving, you would think works out cheaper but is that the price you are prepared to pay for your hairs coming back think and fast?!?

There is no doubt about it, shaving does remove hair cheaply and quickly, pretty much pain-free also. But, and in my opinion it is a BIG BUT! Hair regrowth is very quick as the hair is cut at the surface, this also makes the hair look like it is growing back thicker with a darker colour. You will also be prone to ingrown hairs if you shave.

Removes hair from the root and keeps you skin hair free for at least three weeks, it can even last up to 6 weeks depending on how far along you are with your waxing programme. Yes, I said programme! I really believe if you go to the right therapist a correct waxing programme can really thin out the hair that grows back. Providing you are being waxed correctly and at the right time. Your hair has a cycle, if you wax your hair in the right cycle it will start to destroy the root which is why in time your hair growth slows down dramatically. Although, a bigger upfront cost, I believe over the long run it works out best for value of money and time. It can be painful, however, there are a couple of things you can do to ease the pain. I always prefer getting my waxing done in the morning when I am less stressed and make sure you never try to fit a wax in after a heavy night. Alcohol will tighten your pores and make the whole experience more painful. Providing you exfoliator and moisturise and you go to a good therapist you should not get ingrown hairs either.

So there you have it, my opinion on the waxing vs shaving debate. If you can afford the upfront cost and value your time I would always say waxing wins hands down. Just remember the pain doesn’t last for ever!
